The Verdict – SLAPP Case Targeting Greenpeace

There’s no sugarcoating it: our movement is under attack.

Our ally, Greenpeace, just lost a US$660 million lawsuit against Big Oil1. Energy Transfer, an oil and gas giant that operates a pipeline on Indigenous land in North Dakota in the U.S., sued Greenpeace for their support of Indigenous people’s peaceful protests against the pipeline.

Big Oil is trying to silence the climate justice movement with lawsuits. But we’re stronger than this. We don’t give up.

Today more than ever, our friends at Greenpeace need to see words of support and solidarity pouring in from all over the world, to stay strong in this critical fight. Tom, can you share a message of support using your social media accounts now?

The verdict is in on what has been described as the most closely monitored environmental court case in American history.

The world’s most renowned environmental protection group, Greenpeace, must pay more than $660 million in damages to oil company Energy Transfer and its subsidiary Dakota Access.

A jury in North Dakota, found Greenpeace guilty of defamation in a case brought by a pipeline company in connection with protests against the Dakota Access oil pipeline’s construction.

in a jury found Wednesday. defamation and other claims
